Clearly Canadian started shipping in 1988 as a premium sparkling fruit water sold in a distinctive teardrop shaped blue bottle, made with real sugar instead of the high fructose corn syrup used in most soft drinks at the time. It helped pioneer what the beverage industry called the "new age drink" category during the late eighties and nineties. The brand went through a rough patch and briefly halted production around 2010, though it has attempted several comebacks in the years since.
