General Mills launched Hidden Treasures Cereal in 1993, filling only some of the sweetened corn square pieces with cherry, orange, or grape icing so that every bowl doubled as a small treasure hunt. A mascot named H.T. anchored the marketing around the tagline "things aren't always what they seem." General Mills discontinued it by 1995, and sharp eyed former fans still recall being able to spot the filled pieces by a slight seam in the shell.
