Josta arrived from PepsiCo in 1995 as one of the first mass market energy drinks in the United States, built around guarana and carrying noticeably more caffeine than a typical soda. Its dark red can and aggressive marketing targeted teenage boys years before Red Bull became a household name. PepsiCo discontinued Josta in 1999, and it's often cited by beverage historians as an energy drink that arrived at least a decade ahead of its time.
