The Pirates of Dark Water

The Pirates of Dark Water debuted on Fox Kids in 1991 as a Hanna Barbera production before continuing on ABC and in syndication through 1993, following Prince Ren, ecomancer Tula, pirate Ioz, and the wisecracking monkey bird Niddler as they search for the Thirteen Treasures of Rule needed to stop a deadly substance called Dark Water from consuming their world. The show built a genuinely devoted fan base thanks to its serialized storytelling and darker tone, but it was cancelled before the story was ever fully resolved, with only eight of the thirteen treasures found by the time production ended.
